[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Prince[/lastfm] recently appeared on Lopez Tonight.  He spoke to George Lopez about affordable ticket prices, being a vegetarian and the big business of covering songs.

Regarding covers he said: “I don’t mind fans singing the songs, my problem is when the industry covers the music. See covering the music means your version doesn’t exist anymore.  A lot of times people think I’m doing a Sinéad O’Conner song and a Chaka Khan song when in fact I wrote those songs.  And it’s okay when my friends ask to do them but there is this thing called the compulsory license law which allows artists through the record companies to take your music at will without your permission and that doesn’t exist in any other art form be it books, movies, there’s only one version of ‘Law & Order’ there’s several versions of Kiss and Purple Rain.”

It wasn’t all negative comments coming from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.  He also credited artists of the past for his success saying, “We take this for granted but I am here today because of the golden age the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s of music and this is when artists played their own instruments, they wrote their own songs, they had to perform next to be like Ike & Tina Turner, Wilson Pickett, James Brown I mean you gotta have your act together.”

Prince also showed off a golden Fender Stratocaster guitar which he recently parted with for charity. Formula 1 racing champion Lewis Hamilton purchased the guitar for $100,000.

While on the show, Prince also performed “Lay Down,” “Beautiful Ones.”

Digital Spy reports Prince has confirmed that he and the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]New Power Generation[/lastfm] will hold 21 concerts at various venues in LA starting April 14.
