A jewelry store misunderstanding, a “Satanic” band gets keys to the city, and rock stars have therapeutic “guitar slaps.”  This and more await in this week’s Music History.  Take a stroll through the mishaps and circumstances of some of our favorite (or not) musicians.

This Week in Music History Over the Years (May 1-May 7)

May 1, 1986 – The Rolling Stones shoot their “One Hit to the Body” video, in which Mick and Keith vent their frustrations by smacking each other during the guitar solo.

May 2, 1989 – Police are summoned to a Zales jewelry store in Simi Valley, Calif., after an employee sees a suspicious person with a fake moustache and false teeth loitering around. It turns out to be a disguised Michael Jackson, who signs autographs for everybody.

May 3, 1994 – To launch their Voodoo Lounge tour, the Rolling Stones sail a boat down the Hudson. Mick describes their motivation as “all the beer you can drink, all the girls down in front.”

May 4, 1992 – Baltimore gives Kiss the keys to the city and declares today Kiss Day.

May 5, 2005 – The prosecution in the Michael Jackson child molestation child wraps up its case, after presenting 80 witnesses. The defense makes a motion for acquittal.

May 6, 1997 – The first Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is held in Cleveland. Among those inducted are Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Jackson 5, the Bee Gees, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell, the Young Rascals, and Parliament-Funkadelic (meaning George Clinton).

May 7, 2005 – American Idol judge Paula Abdul appears on Saturday Night Live in a (weak) sketch poking fun at claims she slept with a contestant. On the same show, System of a Down manage to get the F-word past the tape delay during a performance.
