Robin Thicke may be taking the meaning of his new single “Blurred Lines” a little too literally. The soul crooner’s new video featuring rappers T.I. and Pharrell, was taken down from YouTube shortly after its debut last week for allegedly being borderline X-rated.

The unrated clip for the funky upbeat tune off his upcoming sixth record, due out this summer, features Thicke with a few topless women who are only wearing nude-colored panties.

The suggestive nature of the video might have resulted in its removal from YouTube, but it still amassed over 1 million views before it was taken down. Thicke later tweeted his disappointment that the video was removed, but directed fans to Vevo, where it could still be seen.

Representatives for YouTube have yet to comment on the exact reason for the removal. Usually the site takes down videos that contain nudity (which this one does), gratuitous violence, or otherwise violates YouTube’s Terms of Use or Community Guidelines. Of course, in their Terms of Use it does state “YouTube reserves the right to remove Content and User Submissions without prior notice,” so the site can decide to remove a video for any reason it likes.

It seems that Thicke might have known that his NSFW video would get people talking. The hashtags “#THICKE” and “#BLURREDLINES” appear in big, bright red letters on the screen several times during the clip just urging you to start tweeting.

Though the happily married singer appears in the video with several scantily-clad models, Thicke said in an interview with the Washington Post last week that he sought the approval of his wife Paula Patton before releasing the clip, explaining, “It’s entertainment … Obviously if she didn’t like it, I wouldn’t put it out.”

Fans can also watch a censored version of the video on Vevo
