On Minimation, we comb through the archives of legendary New York radio station WNEW-FM and animate interviews with legendary rock artists. This installment is taken from a 1992 interview with Ringo Starr, who was promoting his then-current album, “Time Takes Time.” This Minimation was animated for by Jakob Strunk of Strunk Cartoons.

There’s obviously a lot of good things that come with being a Beatle, but it can also be a double-edged sword, particularly when you’re trying to promote a new album. And that’s what Ringo Starr found when he was promoting his first album in nearly a decade, 1992′s Time Takes Time. It followed his first-ever solo tour and saw him collaborating with some big names including Don Was, Jeff Lynne and Harry Nilsson and even Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.

So when Ringo was being interviewed by WNEW-FM, he was obviously more than pleased to get a message from a fan — via fax! — thanking the host (legendary DJ Scott Muni) “for sticking to questions of Ringo’s current projects.” Was the fax sent by a member of Ringo’s team? We’ll never know. But be advised: then, as now, Ringo likes to talk about the present more than the past.
