Actor David Duchovny to Release Debut Solo Album

By Jay Tilles

Most recently known for his starring role as Hank Moody in Showtime’s CalifornicationDavid Duchovny also has some music in him — having amassed 12 demos that he is close to completing.

The actor told Rolling Stone, “I’ve always written poetry for better or worse and once I started playing music, I started thinking, ‘Gee, I should be able to write lyrics.’ And I just fell backwards into the whole thing.

“It’s just been a real pleasure in my life, regardless of who buys it and what people think of it when it comes out. It’s been a lifesaver just to be able to play music, write songs and think about singing songs to friends.”

Duchovny added that his dream would be to “sound like Wilco or R.E.M.

No word yet on a release date or album title.

One thing’s for sure, he better put the album to bed quickly as he’s got another acting gig lined up. Later this year Duchovny will play LA Police Sergeant Sam Hodiak in the crime drama, Aquarius. Set in the 1960s, the NBC show will explore the “cat-and-mouse game between Manson and the police,” which will go on for several seasons ultimately ending with the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders.
