Travel Gal here, gearing up for my Maine vacation! Last year, we went to Portland and Kennebunkport Maine. Pictured, is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country! It was once owned by a famous actress. Here’s the story…

After its military use in World War II, the lighthouse became a private residences. In 1971 it was purchased by a famous actress and her actor husband for $28,000. Actress Bette Davis and her actor husband, Gary Merrill bought it for $28,000. Gary Merrill was regarded as an eccentric. Merrill gained attention by putting a donkey in the back of his Cadillac convertible and driving through town. The lighthouse was featured in the 1999 film, Snow Falling on Cedars.
