Gum could save your life.

A new cancer-detecting gum is being developed by a company called Volatile Analysis in Alabama. When a person chews the gum, volatile organic compounds are absorbed in their saliva. Then it’s analyzed.

Certain chemicals are produced in the body that are unique to each type of cancer. Based on the compounds in your gum, scientists could tell which type of cancer a person has. It’s all about early detection. Breath samples and urine tests don’t work effectively. Neither do dogs that are supposed to smell it. But gum is durable and can hold up to testing. It’s still in the development stage.

The company hopes to offer it to doctors and patients next year and yes, it will taste like candy.
