While Americans will do anything to preserve the new car smell, from sprays to air fresheners, the Chinese market overwhelmingly detests that aroma.

According to a 2016 JD Powers study, “unpleasant odor” is the top problem with vehicles in China, above engine failure or excessive fuel consumption.

Ford Motor Company, an American corporation, is not going to let a little smell affect their bottom line!

Though Ford’s sales in China are down 7% from last year, they are investing in what they call “golden nose” experts to minimize any auto smells. Seats for the Ford cars arrive wrapped in plastic for the US market.

While Americans are hoping their new car will smell like it’s just off of the showroom floor, Ford is helping their Chinese customers have a car that smells like nothing at all!
