A glass of wine or a pint of beer a day makes you live longer.

Let’s talk stats: Testing more than 300,000 people, researchers at a university of public health in China found that light to moderate drinkers are 20 percent less likely to die early of any cause especially heart disease. Women who had 3 to 14 drinks a week were 20 percent less likely to suffer a premature death and 34 percent less likely to die of heart disease. Men who had that same amount of drinks per week benefited by 13 percent and 21 percent.

But let’s not lose our minds here and start binge-drinking. Heavy drinkers are still at more risk of dying early and/or getting cancer, liver disease, and heart disease, according to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Male heavy drinkers are at more risk by 25 percent when having more than 14 drinks a week and an increased risk for cancer by 67 percent.

For women, apparently the number was so small that it wasn’t considered significant.
