'This Is Us' season 5 trailer teases more intense family drama and the COVID-19 pandemic

With just two weeks left until we reunite with the Pearson clan, “This Is Us” is giving fans a sneak peek at the upcoming season.

The official season 5 trailer focuses mostly on the present-day timeline of the family.

Since each new season kicks off with the Big Three’s birthday, this year’s premiere finds them celebrating the big 4-0.

The season 4 finale gave fans a little insight into the milestone birthday, but the trailer reveals that the siblings all still grappling with the aftermath of Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) explosive fight in which Kevin said the worst thing to ever happen was his parents bringing Randall home.

With tensions running high, it’s not surprising that Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Kevin are celebrating together at the family cabin while Randall is estranged and enjoying the day with his wife and kids.

At the kickstart of the trailer, Kevin calls Randall and says, "I was not a very good brother to you, was I?," to which Randall responds, “no, you weren’t. But you still got time.”

The season will also address the real-life coronavirus pandemic as both Randall and Kevin are seen wearing face masks in separate scenes and the Black Lives Matter movement, as Randall’s family watches a protest on television.

"What we're dealing with as a people, it's just so tragic," Randall states, presumably referring to protests inspired by the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

Fans also get a glimpse of Kevin and his pregnant fiancée, Madison. Yes, we said fiancée, but is she really?

The dad-to-be is seen rubbing her baby bump, but Kate is quick to call him out on the fact that their relationship is a bit more complicated.

“You're going to have to explain your use of the word 'fiancée,'" she exclaims.

The trailer wraps up with Randall arriving at the cabin as Kevin answers the door. It seems like a reunion may take place during the birthday celebration after all.

Will they forgive and forget all the hurtful things that were said?

We’ll find out during the two-hour season 5 premiere on October 27 on NBC.
