According the almanac.com, "On the autumnal equinox, day and night are each about 12 hours long (with the actual time of equal day and night, in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring a few days after the autumnal equinox). The Sun crosses the celestial equator going southward; it rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west".

Did you know there are a lot of cool superstitions on the first day of fall? These superstitions revolve around catching leaves. Some people believe it’s good luck to catch a falling leaf. Another legend says, to make a wish when you catch a falling leaf. Here's one your grandmother might have used. Catch a falling leaf on the first day of autumn you will not catch a cold all winter long!
