My trip to Newport was a throw back for me from when I was 24 years old. My Providence born stepmom and my dad, took me to Belle Vue Avenue one day and I fell in love with all of those mansions! The grandest of them all, The Breakers. Built for the Vanderbilt Family from New York. In 1895, this family owned the New York Central Railroad. So money was no object. This 70 room mansion with rich marbles and gilded gold rooms was built for around $7 million, today is a whooping $150 million bucks! The Vanderbilt family of today is fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt was 90 years old and her son, famous CNN news anchor, Anderson Cooper. I wonder if he played at The Breakers as a kid? This ocean front property was built to escape the hot New York summers. The Rhode Island coast was a perfect spot with its cool ocean breezes on the beautiful New England cliffs. Stuff dreams are made of for sure.
