Tom's Slow Beans

Cool Beans! This Texas slow bean recipe with a Maryland twist created by my hubby is the perfect accompaniment for football game day get togethers. The next time you fire up your grill, plan on making this flavor-packed recipe in advance. Don’t be in a rush to cook beans. They taste best when cooked very slowly.  A Crockpot is perfect for cooking these home cooked pintos. Enjoy

Tom’s Slow Beans

2 cups dried pinto beans / 1/2 onion, finely chopped / 1 tablespoon chili powder / 1 teaspoon ground black pepper / 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning / 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin / 1 cup finely chopped bacon / 1 clove garlic, minced / 1 1/2 cups National Bohemian Beer (Natty Boh) / 4 1/2 cups water

Sort the beans to remove any stone or grit. Rinse in a colander and place the beans in a Crockpot with the beer and water. Add the onion, chili powder, pepper, Old Bay, cumin, garlic, and bacon.

Cook on high for 2 hours. Stir. Turn to low and simmer for 8 hours or overnight. Add more water as needed.
